Dancer of the Feather

As a child, sitting on the Hill of Yavego, close to my hometown of Zimatlán, in the state of Oaxaca, I would dream of  the Dancer of the Feather, of  his striking and vividly hued headdress that brightened my childhood fantasies and lightened the sometimes unbearable load of my real life. I was sure that by wearing it, I could fly.

Fast forward a few decades to July of 2018, when I paid homage to my hero: I completed a 13-meter sculpture of the Dancer of the Feather, on that same Hill of Yavego. This sculpture is made of fiber glass and an abstract painting, inspired by the Festival of the Guelaguetza, adorns its monumental headdress.
